Susan Smith, she murdered her two toddler sons in South Carolina in 1994. She told the entire country that a black man carjacked her and took her car with her sons still inside. In fact, the truth is that she actually let her car roll down a hill in to a lake and her sons drowned to death as they slept in their car seats. She was sentenced to life in prison in 1995.
