The Imam behind the planned building of the Islamic Center near Ground Zero in New York has recently been criticized for his statements he made in a 2006 interview with Barbara Walters and a 2010 interview on WABC Radio in New York. 

Apparently, he candidly discussed his beliefs with Walters during her 2006 special on heaven. “The fundamental thing is you must accept God. You have to believe there is a creator.  The Jews, Christians, whoever believes in God and does good will be saved,” he said during the interview.  When Rauf was asked whether the State Department was correct to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization, he said on New York’s WABC Radio in June 2010: “I do not want to be placed nor will I accept a position where I am the target of one side or the other.”

Hamas is a terrorist organization.  End of story!  Of course, the U.S. State Department was correct to designate the organization as a terrorist one.  I do find it interesting that he didn’t want to take a firm position on whether it was correct to designate them as a terrorist organization.  It was a simple question.  Everyone else in the world considers them a terrorist organization. 

We shall see how this plays out.  Several media outlets have reported stories in which his comments suggest that he is a terrorist sympathizer.  If he is, then that’s one more reason to oppose the planned location of the Islamic Center.  JMO.

Reportedly, Hunter traveled with Edwards while he was campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008. She was hired to film a series of short videos for his presidential campaign; she started sleeping with him (because I am sure there were no other men to sleep with – Edwards was the only man on the campaign trail), then she became pregnant and she gave birth to a daughter, Quinn, in February 2008.

Oh, by the way, during this time, Edwards’ wife was battling CANCER.

I’m not sure whether you can call Edwards anything else other than vermin. He cheated on his wife, lied about it…he had unprotected sex with another woman and had a child with her, causing his cancer stricken wife and the rest of his family much embarrassment…then HE DENIES HIS OWN CHILD! What a piece of %6$3!

It kills me how these self-professed Christians and people who claim to come from “good American families” always have some story that makes them look more like trash.

Lastly, the little boy says he is sorry for denying that Quinn was his child for an entire year. In a statement released today, he said that he will provide both love and financial support for his little girl. ****Deep Sigh****

Who cares, John, you already publicly denied her???!!! I will never understand any father who denies their own blood. All of the education and political clout in the world will never make up for denying your own child — even it was for only a year.

With New Year resolutions, including promises to get back in the gym, promises to stop smoking, etc., also comes new state laws and regulations.  So what’s new?  Well, in North Carolina, there is a restaurant and bar smoking ban.  Why is this a big deal?  Well, North Carolina is the country’s biggest tobacco producer.  The ban goes into effect on Saturday, January 02, 2009.  I’m not sure how this help’s the state’s budget since the state has long been depended on tax $$$ from the big tobacco companies. 

If you live in New Hampshire, Oregon and Illinois, there will be no more texting while driving for you! The New Year ushered in a ban on texting in these states.  My personal opinion is that there should be a ban on texting while driving in EVERY state.  It’s just silly and pressed! 

In Arkansas, they have banned imitation (or toy) guns that look like real guns.  I think that this was a waste of legislative power if you ask me.  Who cares?  People will find a gun to do whatever they want to do.  Why on earth would you take the time to ban imitation guns?  Anyway….

In Massachusetts, dog racing is now banned.  Believe it or not, this was a 75 year tradition!!!

I thought that California revealed the most interesting bans.  The state has a partial ban on serving products with trans fat in state restaurants.  The state has also enacted an anti-paparazzi law.  Hmmm.  Interesting. 

Lastly, in New Hampshire, Joe and John can marry, and so can Mary and Sue.  Not only can they have a ceremony, but they can also obtain a marriage license.  I have no additional comment on this issue.  ****sigh****

There were a number of other laws that took effect around the country today, and that will take effect on Saturday and Monday.  If you want to know if your state has enacted new laws that will take effect in 2010, take a look at your state’s official website.  If you live in the District, like me, go to www.dc.gov and see if there are any new laws that you need to be aware of in 2010.

Personally, I can’t say I am surprised by this development.  Our country is moving towards a very gay-friendly society.  Period (and it’s cool).  I’m just wondering how long it will be before it’s legal for adults and little children to marry, or humans and animals, for that matter.  ****deep sigh****

Anyway, back to the story.  So which Council Members opposed it?  Yvette Alexander and former DC Mayor Marion Barry did not support the legislation.  Also not surprising is that the National Organization of Marriage said that “the fight is not over.”  Of course, they also oppose same-sex marriage.

Oh well, I presume that, for now,  this means that John and James can get married in DC, and so can Sue and Mary.  ****sigh****

In my opinion, we don’t need to send more troops to Afghanistan.  It makes no sense.  We aren’t losing the war in Afghanistan as a result of not having enough troops. We are losing because we have become unfocused.  It seems we have forgotten why we entered Afghanistan in the first place.

If you remember, we went to Afghanistan to find Osama Bin Laden and to get rid of the Taliban forces in that region of the world.  Well, we found him.  He’s in Pakistan!!!!  I’m not even the CIA and I know where he is.  Anyway, sending more troops to Afghanistan is going to be so ridiculously expensive that we will never recover from the economic crisis we currently find ourselves in.  I wish the president would rethink his decision.  It makes no sense to me.

Notice how the author of the article continue to refer to the 9/11 attackers as “suspects.”  This really upsets me!  For the record, many of the 9/11 attackers have already admitted guilt.  In fact, as the article correctly highlights, Khalid Sheik Mohammed has asked to plead guilty before a military commission and be executed for his role in the attacks! 

I really hate the fact that my tax dollars will contribute to prosecuting these losers in a federal court of law for crimes already admitted to.  Our judicial system is so frustrating at times!
