On November 10th, 2009, Shaniya Davis was taken from her home in North Carolina. She was found dead on Monday, November 16. I have been following this story ever since it broke. I am still heartbroken over her death and the circumstances surrounding her death. Can you believe her own mother, Antoinette Davis, prostituted her!
They finally arrested and charged the monster that raped and murdered 5 year old Shaniya Davis. The rapist and killer’s name is Mario McNeil. He was charged with rape and murder. The cause of death was homicide by asphyxiation.
Carey Lockhard-Davis, Shaniya’s aunt, was on CBS’ The Early Show expressing her disgust with McNeil and the justice system as she noted that McNeil is/will be treated better than most law abiding citizens. In prison, he will get free meals and free medical care all paid for by you and me. After viewing the video of her interview, I couldn’t agree with her more. The thought is disgusting and it angers me.
Because the crime was committed in North Carolina, Mario McNeil could receive the death penalty. I hope the justice system works for little Shaniya and that this monster is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The real question, however, is what do we do with a justice system that “coddles criminals,” especially the criminals that commit such heinous crimes as Mario McNeil.
