All Redskins and Cowgirls fans are looking forward to September 12, 2010. I just hope we’re ready. Apparently, the Washington Redskins have signed safety Tyrone Carter and fullback Carey Davis, addressing two positions that were hit with knee injuries to starters in the last preseason game. Carter and Davis both practiced Monday. As for Tyrone Carter, he has 53 starts over his 10 NFL seasons with Minnesota Vikings, the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He started 12 games for the Steelers last year.
Carey also comes from Pittsburgh, where he started 10 games over three seasons but was used sparingly last year. Free safety Kareem Moore sprained his right knee and fullback Mike Sellers hurt his left knee in Saturday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
I really don’t understand how Baltimore beat them so badly on Sunday. WTH? I didn’t think that Baltimore was a good team. What do I know about football though –I just make football theme cards.

First of all, the plan is not to build a “Mosque,” the plan is to build an Islamic Center, which will include an area for Muslims to pray – which is important in their religion. I really wish that other media outlets would stop reporting that the plan is to build a Mosque.
Back to my story….
The Imam behind the planned building of the Islamic Center near Ground Zero in New York has recently been criticized for his statements he made in a 2006 interview with Barbara Walters and a 2010 interview on WABC Radio in New York.
Apparently, he candidly discussed his beliefs with Walters during her 2006 special on heaven. “The fundamental thing is you must accept God. You have to believe there is a creator. The Jews, Christians, whoever believes in God and does good will be saved,” he said during the interview. When Rauf was asked whether the State Department was correct to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization, he said on New York’s WABC Radio in June 2010: “I do not want to be placed nor will I accept a position where I am the target of one side or the other.”
Hamas is a terrorist organization. End of story! Of course, the U.S. State Department was correct to designate the organization as a terrorist one. I do find it interesting that he didn’t want to take a firm position on whether it was correct to designate them as a terrorist organization. It was a simple question. Everyone else in the world considers them a terrorist organization.
We shall see how this plays out. Several media outlets have reported stories in which his comments suggest that he is a terrorist sympathizer. If he is, then that’s one more reason to oppose the planned location of the Islamic Center. JMO.

The March issue of Vanity Fair’s magazine cover included a group of talented Hollywood actresses.
Many people had negative things to say about the magazine’s cover because there was no diversity (i.e., women of different colors, shades, shapes, weight, etc…). The title read “A New Decade, a New Hollywood!” Recently, Fearless magazine came out with a cover that included a very different group of talented actresses in Hollywood. They titled their issue “The Fearless Class of 2010.” The magazine is scheduled to hit newsstands soon.
Of course blogs weighed in on the March Vanity Fair issue and many questioned whether Vanity Fair is just a magazine made up of a bunch of racist editors who simply refuse to note that Hollywood is made up of more than just white, thin women. On some of the more conservative blogs, readers expressed that it has nothing to do with race or being racist. Collectively, their thought was that we live in a capitalistic society and Vanity Fair simply caters to a particular market—and the group on the cover of the March issue is simply representative of that particular market.
So is it that Vanity Fair is a racist magazine with a bunch of racist white editors, or do we simply live in a capitalistic society where companies market to particular audiences – audiences that will help sustain them as a company?
In my opinion, if you REALLY want to stay relevant, you should try to appeal to more than one group of people. Secondly, EVERYTHING can’t be racist. There are other explanations for these types of situations. So, I disagree with those who think the magazine is racist or has racist views. Third, of course, Vanity Fair could have shown some diversity and included a Hollywood actress who looks different in size, shape and/or color. However, as a private company, they didn’t have to (and they never have to). More importantly, women of color should stop expecting them to. In this world, if you want to see something different, YOU have to create it! This is exactly why Essence and Ebony exist.
Lastly, I have to give a big thanks to Fearless magazine for their beautiful magazine cover. They clearly understand the importance of showing young women of color that they can be anything they want to be in this world and that people before them, who look like them, have achieved exactly what they are trying to achieve.
Women of all races should have more than just the Vanity Fairs of the world to look to for all things related to women, fashion and beauty. Why? Because everyone doesn’t look like Vanity Fair’s March issue. Without beauty and fashion magazines that show more than just white, thin women, people may begin to believe that there is only one standard for beauty (and success in Hollywood), and that’s just not true. The beauty of a woman comes in many shapes, colors and sizes -not just one.
This card was created using a lovely textured paper and just three rhinestones—to keep it simple, yet elegant. We can create so much beginning with this simple design (e.g., invitations, wedding announcements, thank you cards, etc.). This paper is just fabulous!

If you follow the news like I do, then you have heard about the sickening sex abuse scandal in Manassas County, Virginia –a suburb of DC.
There has been an update. Today, Kevin Ricks plead guilty to one sex abuse charge in a Prince William County courtroom. This results in the first conviction in the case. The former teacher will be sentenced in October 2010. At sentencing, the judge can follow the sentencing guidelines, but he doesn’t have to. Ricks could face a maximum of 10 years in prison. He is also facing federal charges for transporting child pornography.
Ricks, 50, acknowledged that he was guilty of performing sex acts on a 16-year-old boy who had been a student of his at Osbourn High School. The acts occurred during winter break in a basement room he was renting from the boy’s father. A Manassas detective testified that Ricks wrote in his journal that he got the boy drunk before the first incident and that the second incident came just days later.
Ricks was a husband and a father. It seems that Ricks was staying with the child’s father while he was going through a divorce. I bet you the wife found out about him being gay and a pedophile. She probably found out that he was a pedophile, filed for divorce and kicked him out. This is so sad and all too common.
